Yo-yo’ing in and out of the bubble

November 30th, 2009 admin

According to a weekend TV news item snippet, a professional yo-yo player is in the UK promoting the ’sport.’ I know what one of those objects feels like. The last few weeks have seen me bouncing between Spain, UK and the west coast of the US. I’m becoming mighty friendly with SeatExpert . TripIt is keeping the schedules, hotels and flights in order. Which is more than I can say for my body. It feels like Ray Wang and I are following each other around. I don’t know whose travel schedule …

M Is for Mistake, But the IRS Has a Cure
This year two brand new schedules appeared on federal tax returns: Schedules L and M. Schedule L is for the Standard Deduction for certain individuals, and hasn’t been a problem for most individuals or preparers. The same can’t be said for Schedule M. Schedule M is used for the Making Work Pay and Government Retiree Credits. The schedule...

Cloud Industry Forum publishes curious poll results. Where’s my copy?
The Cloud Industry Forum , an outgrowth of FAST and, from what I can tell, the archetypal vendor handwaving organization masquerading as a standards body has released the results of the poll into what such standards embodied in a code of practice should look like. I was never happy about this poll because : If you  look at its registration form...

Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron
Anyone remember that line from the Jilted John song ? If not then it is worth reminding. That’s how it feels trying to answer questions on AccountingWeb about the value prop that SaaS delivers. I’ve clearly gotten under John Stokdyk’s skin such that he’s tossed his toys out of the pram. Heh ho – it happens and knowing...
Upcoming gigs you need to know about
Upcoming gigs you need to know about
All of a sudden I am invited to attend and present at gigs that reflect the interests of this blog and beyond. In the past I have assiduously refused these gigs on the ground I am reporting and analyzing what goes on. These days, I am part of the equation . In all cases my travel and expense is covered by sponsors but I am not drawing any speaker...

Kashflow’s brave post
I give Duane Jackson oodles of credit for his latest post: Reviewing from the wrong perspective . It’s a brave vendor that publishes negative stuff being said about its service: It was interesting to seen an old chestnut come up in the form of this email from an accountant. Not impressed at all! Having been in practice over 20 years I can...
Put on your sunglasses: Brightbook
Put on your sunglasses: Brightbook
Yesterday I received an email asking me to look at Brightbook . I haven’t and I won’t. Check the image above from the website. Fortunately I have spectacles that darken in sunlight but even that wasn’t enough to prevent me from wanting to close the link almost the moment I saw the site. Its appearance has all the allure I’d...
Too much
Too much
As the old saying goes: the mind may be willing but the body isn’t. Or something like that. I should be in Hamberg at an HP event through Friday. Instead, I’m nursing a dose of flu. Two months of bouncing around Europe and/or the US every week, going from desert to coast then rain and home just enough to tip out clothes before refilling...

How a bank lost my business after 16 years
How a bank lost my business after 16 years
As more accounting solutions look to find banks willing to provide hooks into their systems, it is becoming clear there are banks that get customer service and those that don’t. The difference is a yawning chasm. The other week I announced on Twitter that I planned to buy a suit. This was a shock to many who only know me as a moderately...
