Are the Democrats in Sacramento that Blind?

January 21st, 2010 admin

There was an election in Massachusetts on Tuesday. As I’m sure you’re aware, Republican Scott Brown is the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts. Apparently, Democrats in Sacramento are blind to the obvious. The voters in Massachusetts, a state more liberal than California, had enough of tax and spend, and the Democrats’ health care plan. They wanted fiscal responsibility. So what happened in Sacramento today? SB810, a $220 billion healthcare plan, passed on a party-line vote today in Sacramento. The bill would create a one-payer system, is far…

How Stupid Can the Democrats in our Legislature Be?
The answer is very, very stupid. On a party line vote, the California State Senate passed a health care bill that would cost $200 billion. The legislation will undoubtedly be vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger. Meanwhile, as I reported earlier California is lurching towards running out of money by April 1st…again. But don’t worry, Democrats...
They’re Mad as Hell and They’re Not Going to Take It Any More!
Many of you may remember the movie classic Network: On Tuesday, voters in Massachusetts sent a message to politicians. Massachusetts elected a Republican Senator. To put that in perspective, the last time a Republican was elected to the Senate in Massachusetts was in 1976, nearly forty years ago. Massachusetts elects Democrats the same as the Sun...
The Abyss Beckons
The immovable object and the unstoppable force need to get ready: California’s annual budget woes are heating up. The Bronze Golden State is facing a $19 billion deficit, and Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed a new budget that has no chance to pass the legislature. The Governator’s budget includes $12.4 billion in spending cuts, including...
California Heading to the Abyss
Usually, the Democrats and the Republicans in the California legislature at least realize the problems that exist with the budget. In past years, the Democrats will propose raising all sorts of taxes knowing they’ll only get a little of what they want (with a Republican governor); the Republicans will say there won’t be any new taxes...
1099 Repeal?
Before I head out the door, I just saw a short article that a repeal of the new requirement on issuance of 1099s (part of the health care fiasco) was introduced by Democrats today. The measure was an amendment to a bill on health care benefits on 9/11 respondents. The overall measure failed on a procedural vote (it needed a two-thirds vote to pass)....
Massachusetts Tax Amnesty: Waive MA Tax Penalties 4/1/10 to 6/30/10
Massachusetts Tax Amnesty: Waive MA Tax Penalties 4/1/10 to 6/30/10
If you are a business tax payer in the state of Massachusetts, you may have recently received a tax amnesty notice. All business tax payers that qualify have been given a two month amnesty which began April 1, 2010 and will end on June 30, 2010. In order to qualify for the program you need to be a non-corporate business in the state of Massachusetts....
One Ray of Sunshine Amid the Darkening Gloom
California’s tax revenues were $1.2 billion higher than expected in January according to the Department of Finance. Democrats in the Legislature are unfortunately delusional about what $1.2 billion does to a $19.9 billion deficit. From the Mercury-News: “There is a reasonable scenario by which we can get through this budget with minimal...
Top Five Democrats Who Have Seen Back Tax Trouble
Top Five Democrats Who Have Seen Back Tax Trouble
With the Bush tax cuts set to expire and a Democratic led congress at work, America could potentially see a tax increase of $115 billion for the next year- a scenario of minute desirability to anyone, especially when juxtaposed with the present economic climate. From higher income taxes and individual state taxes, to halved child care tax credits...
Unearned Income Tax in New Healthcare Bill Will Impact Gambling
The new healthcare legislation contains plenty of taxes. One especially bad one is a new 3.8% tax on unearned income above $200,000. This will have a very bad impact on amateur gamblers. When I last looked at the bill, the tax was 2.9%. In the “final” version of the bill, it’s up to 3.8%. Let’s take a hypothetical gambler,...
For Sale With Mold
Mold inside a building can be a major health issue. Unfortunately, California’s Board of Equalization is housed in such a building . The 24-story building is in a prime, downtown Sacramento location. But leaks and mold abound, and the $15 million that would have fixed up the building has grown into $68 million today. Assemblyman Dave Jones...
