Sage launches X3 v.6

January 22nd, 2010 admin

Sage launched X3 v.6 on Wednesday in Paris. It is the first time I recall Sage putting on a big show for one of its products. Sage’s astonishing claims about the SaaS market
During Sage’s earnings call, Paul Walker, CEO Sage made some astonishing claims about the saas market as the platform from which he explained Sage’s strategy. In my commentary on the recorded remarks I said: …it demonstrates a horrific lack of market understanding. The previous day at ZDNet I said : I have long held the view...

A conversation with Paul Walker: CEO Sage
At the Paris launch of Sage X3 v.6 , I had the opportunity to meet with Paul Walker, CEO Sage . It was our first time of meeting. In attendance were Christophe Letellier, GM Sage ERP X3 worldwide and Stuart Lynn, head of Sage mid-market R&D. I didn’t take the formal Q&A route but rather wanted to have a semi-informal conversation...
Sage cracks open the kimono?
Sage cracks open the kimono?
Late yesterday I had an enjoyable and useful conversation with Stuart Lynn who runs R&D for Sage mid market solutions. Stuart has been pinging Twitter the last few weeks with Tweets about how Sage is using Amazon to provide an alpha (now beta) test bed for Sage 1000 (aka Tetra CS3.) Are you kidding me? Was my initial reaction, ergo the conversation...

Lerryn shaking up Sage via MyPAYE?
Last week, Neil Seekings, sales director of The Lerryn Group and I had a backwards and forwardsing over email. He said: We are launching a link for MyPAYE and the Sage 50 product family which will allow Sage clients to use MyPAYE online and through a small desktop app download pay data into Sage 50 this might cause a stir from Sage as no need...

Sage and SaaS: the profession’s response
Sage’s SaaS issue has not gone un-noticed by professional colleagues. I asked a selection of colleagues for their take. After all, Sage prides itself on being in tune with members of the accounting fraternity. I specifically asked those who have worked with SaaS. While being vested in the technology, they have experience of what it means...

Gary Turner’s post: Long distance running, icebergs and Sage contains this intriguing passage: …building a business that gets to 1,000 paying customers is very tough, but getting to 5,000 or 10,000 and beyond is exponentially much, much harder and more complex, particularly if you have to change course or undo decisions mid-way through....

Sage half year: revenue continues to fall
In a further measure of how retarded Sage was in buying the healthcare division in the US market and just how vulnerable its results are to US economic trends, it’s half year results to 31st March show a continuing overall decline of 4% with a fall of 5% in North America. Describing the US result as ‘progress’ in the slide deck,...
Sage caught in a vice?
Sage caught in a vice?
Rumours are emerging that the saas providers are taking money off Sage’s Instant table. The extent to which that might be true or otherwise masks a much larger problem. Sage Instant is the entree to Line 50, the company’s UK bread and butter application. Sage Instant customers are relatively easy to upgrade to Line 50 but if they’re...

According to AccountingWeb referring to the Software Satisfaction Awards for 2010 says: The awards have also done away with the distinction between on-premise and web-based “Cloud” applications. Sage Insights: a tale of two companies?
Reading the coverage of Sage Insights from Indicee and Jim Ward plus comments from the Sage Partners’ Linked-In site I was struck by the comparison between enthusiasm garnered by Sage partners in the US and the general feeling of gloom I see in the UK. Could we be looking at two different companies that happen to be joined by a common shareholding...
