I took the opportunity to review Alan’s list and update it for services I’ve found that he’d not listed, clear out dead links and add more data such as pricing. It has 61 entries. If you just want to stay here – see below: Some points: I’ve only included service providers that I’ve seen having a demonstrable UK presence. That’s not to say that others haven’t got customers in…

Making the SaaS accounting market scale
The SaaS market is at a point where mega growth is not a matter of when but how. The SaaS vendors have to find ways of managing growth. However, to date, they’ve mostly been poor at understanding what needs to be done in order to grab the prize. It’s well understood that the ‘build it and they will come ‘ approach isn’t...
Nine Common SaaS marketing errors
Nine Common SaaS marketing errors
I’ve said a few times that I think SaaS vendor marketing sucks. That doesn’t win me many friends so as a helper, here goes as to why. As I’m building out the online apps wiki it’s amazing just how much information providers forget to put on their websites. Much of it is Marketing 101. Here are a few of the latest horrors...
Who’s winning in the SaaS accounting stakes?
Who’s winning in the SaaS accounting stakes?
Can we discern winners in the SaaS accounting stakes or is it too early? Unpacking web analytics data can help. Taking a leaf out of CloudAve’s book , but perhaps not being as artistic, I ran a DoubleClick AdPlanner analysis for some of the better known names in the SaaS accounting market and threw in a few oddballs to see what emerges....
Kashflow and Absolute Accounting hook up
Kashflow and Absolute Accounting hook up
Kashflow and Absolute Accounting have partnered in a move that sees Absolute integrate Kashflow data into its accounts preparation package. This is a first step towards iXBRL filing and provides a semi-automated way for Kashflow data to be pulled into a third party system. “It’s really a couple of clicks to produce accounts,”...

inniAccounts: a fresh face on the freelance SaaS accounting block
FreeAgent has had a good run of being pretty much the only credible SaaS player for IT freelancers and contractors looking for an easy to use accounting solution. I’m not saying that cuz I was involved in the early days but because it gets rave reviews from its customers. FreeAgent’s allure lay in the fact it works out pay and CT figures....

Sage’s astonishing claims about the SaaS market
During Sage’s earnings call, Paul Walker, CEO Sage made some astonishing claims about the saas market as the platform from which he explained Sage’s strategy. In my commentary on the recorded remarks I said: …it demonstrates a horrific lack of market understanding. The previous day at ZDNet I said : I have long held the view...

SaaS accounting ranks 3rd in Goldman Sachs poll
According to Goldman Sachs, SaaS accounting has reached 3rd spot of those buying this style of application. Given the momentum I’ve seen in the market, I was not surprised to see accounting and billing applications jumping up to third spot after web conferencing and salesforce automation. It doesn’t take much thought to realize accounting...
Adding the Service into SaaS
Adding the Service into SaaS
As SaaS/cloud providers mature and harden their applications, we are starting to see a range of new services emerge. For example, within hours of yesterday’s UK Budget, Emily Coltman had provided an easy to follow summary of the main provisions affecting FreeAgent users. While no substitute for professional advice, FreeAgent users can readily...

Pearl sticks its claws into IRIS
Pearl has developed an integration to IRIS . It had to happen and it is an important landmark. I’ve long felt that the battleground among SaaS accounting providers will be fought on two fronts: directly with customers, which is already happening, and by the extent to which the providers can either give the professional what they need and/or...

Overcoming SaaS security and other barriers
Having moaned about the poor job vendors are doing in helping customers explain how they manage the potential pitfalls and barriers associated with SaaS it was refreshing to see sponsor Workbooks grab the nettle based on their own unfortunate experience . Don’t worry, this is a non-critical issue that doesn’t affect customers but which...
